BMW is updating the X6 for 2012, as it looks to enhance the appeal of the car it dubs, 'the world's first ever Sports Activity Coupe'. Since its launch, more than 150,000 X6s have been sold, far exceeding BMW's expectations. Colour and trim upgrades mean that customers can now choose from two non-metallic and eight metallic paint finishes, while 19-inch light alloy wheels are fitted as standard. Prindiville Design, the London-based bespoke coachbuilder, has just relaunched with a range of customisation packages and performance enhancements for the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari 458 and Range Rover Evoque. International Electric Vehicle Racing Championship

Plans are afoot to develop a new generation of sustainable motorsport. Sustainability specialists Quimera, the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and the American Le Mans Series are working together to launch a new international Electric Vehicle series by 2013. Initially, a version of the Quimera All-Electric GT car will make its debut in demonstration runs at selected American Le Mans Series race events in 2012. Renault trims model line up

Renault has swung the axe on a number of longstanding models to make way for the arrival of its new Z.E. electric fleet, with effect from 1st February. Cars for the chop include the Espace, Laguna, Modus, and Kangoo, while in the UK the Wind Roadster and Gordini line-up will also be discontinued. Meanwhile, the Twizy range will be launched in April, with prices starting from £;6,690, plus monthly battery hire of £;45. The little electric runabout will be joined by the Fluence Z.E. Hyundai i40 saloon launched

Hyundai has launched a saloon version of the i40. Priced from £;17,395 on-the-road, the i40 saloon joins the Tourer estate variant and is available in three main trim levels, with a choice of three engines and manual or automatic transmissions. Designed and engineered at its European Headquarters in Germany, Hyundai says the i40 has been tailored specifically for European roads and customers, and has also received a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The City of Westminster has postponed the introduction of off-peak parking charges in the West End until after the Olympics. The move follows a High Court decision to consider the proposals through a judicial review. Volkswagen has revealed pictures of a new, five door variant of its up! city car. The five-door up! has many of the same virtues as its three-door sibling, with extra accessibility for families on a budget. Rear passenger space is exactly the same as the three-door model, with the same Isofix child seat mounts for lugging the kids. Volkswagen CC no longer a Passat

This is the Volkswagen CC, which for 2012 will no longer wear a Passat badge. The CC made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, complete with updated styling to incorporate Volkswagen's new design DNA. As a premium four-door coupe the CC has a high standard specification including touchscreen sat nav and DAB digital radio, not to mention a host of safety technologies. SARTRE testing complete

Automated road trains could be a step closer to reality, as the SARTRE project completes a first round of testing. The 'Safe Road Trains for the Environment' project uses a lead truck followed by three cars driven entirely autonomously at speeds of up to 55 miles per hour with a 6-metre gap between them. The technique is called 'platooning', and should theoretically prove safer and more fuel efficient. More...

Chevrolet was in a coupe mood at the recent Detroit Motor Show, as demonstrated by the Tru140S concept. It was one of two concept cars aimed at potential owners under 30 with a love of driving. The Tru140S is a front-wheel-drive, four-seat coupe-cum-hatchback designed to look confident, exotic, expensive and fast.
